Re: Dell Operating & Security Systems . Advice Sought. Thanks.

a quick visit to dell.co.nz show me that both dell 'home and home office'
and 'small business' divisions sell your choice of xp home, pro, and media
center editions (with the exception of the entry level machines that only
offer home or mce as to discourage business purchasers who need pro to
joining a domain). but having said that i doubt there is anything in pro or
mce that you need for a three computer network configuration. the big
advantage to pro used in a small network is the remote desktop feature. if
you never heard of it then you probably don't need it and which case home is
all you need.

Grateful for some advice
I have two Dell Dimensions with WinXPPro networked together and to the
internet via a router
I wish to purchase a third Dell Dimension but all those on offer in New
Zealand at this time have WinXP Media Edition as the OS. I feel wary of
this - more through ignorance than well informed opinion !!
Should it be as easy to hook up into the current network as Win XP Pro.?
I have no interest at all in the TV Tuner cards that seem to be integral
parts of these. Family usage will be for 3D Graphics, Games, Internet
browsing and Uni work. Are there other WinMedia features that are useful
in this context ?
Or should I just wait awhile until the next cycle of Dell marketing rolls
around with a different configuration and restoration of Win XP Pro as an
option ?

On a similar theme my two current Dells are very happy with their Norton
Security installations. The current range of NZ Dells all come with
McAffee as the only option. Intuitively it would seem more sensible to
have the same suite on all 3 machines - or am I once again imagining
misfortunes that should never eventuate ?

Grateful for guidance
Thanks
Bob
