I'm thinking about buying a external hard drive, I have used a friend's
external Seagate hard drive and had one button backup, by pushing one
button. My question is are you forced to use the proprietary backup
software that comes installed on hard drive? Can you drag and drop files
from computer internal hard drive from a Seagate external hard drive? What
brand of external hard drives are recommended?

Sure, it's just a regular hard drive with a drive letter. Seagates are
about the best.
