By the way, OT: ... I just got a Sony DSC-T9 (pocket-sized) and love
it. I got it because it's very good in low light situations, and I
can usually take good pictures without a flash due to it's good image
stabilization and high light sensitivity.
I was going to hold out for the Casio EX-Z1000 but I'm happy with the
Sony. It does what I want it to do most -- take pictures in an
unobtrusive way, and a way in which I can capture the natural light
which is so much better than seeing peoples faces lit up with a flash.
I have taken a number of pictures around friends that I would not have
even considered taking if I would have needed to use a flash.
I also have a Kodak P850 12x IS zoom which I like much better than the
Canon S2 IS which it replaced (the S2 had a lousy display, and the
lens cap kept falling off which irritated the he** out of me -- the
Kodak has much better build quality, is more fun to use, is slower to
focus but the image stabilization is much better).
Today I tried to take some pictures using shutter speed priority and
they turned out very dark. I'm exploring the manual features now and
have several e-books to help out with that. By the end of summer I
should be very good with it, and then maybe next year around this time
I'll be interested in the Canon S4 IS if they get their act together
and make some changes more substantial than the S3 (Canon is really
milking its reputation for all it can get...). I will consider
selling the 850 on e-bay when Kodak announces it's successor and
before it becomes popular knowledge -- I don't need the zoom camera
over the winter anyway.
Office Depot was selling a Kodak Easyshare V530 (pocket-sized 5mp) for
$139 a few weeks ago. I decided to try it out knowing I could return
it or give it away as a gift. Unlike with the Sony T9, It's horrid
with indoor pictures -- I really have to know what I'm doing and I
either need to get close to the person and use a flash or risk a
blurry or dark picture. However, I am keeping it because its movie
mode is actually very good and it records in MP4 format, so I can get
up to 80 minutes of pretty decent video on one SD card. The video has
image stabilization (even though the stills don't), and is _very_
good with lighting and continuous focusing.
When Halloween rolls around I know what I am going to go dressed as --
gadget man lol. I have a belt case for almost every small gadget I
own. I actually remember when my dad would come home from work with a
pocket protecter, and if I really stretch my memory I also remember
that hats for guys were in style and I remember him wearing those too.
From my 15 or so years as a corporate employee I have a lot of suitjackets without matching pants (OK, why do they only sell one pair of
pants with most suits when that is what wears out first!!!) so I
should be able to mix and match something appropriate :-)
