Re: KVM w / two Dell DIM 2400's. Again?

Mike,

I know you don't want to hear it, but yes, you need a simple network. Sorry
about that :)

The challenge is the device sharing.

What should make you happy is that you can do it with a $10 crossover cable.
No routers, switches, etc. Just a cable.

Hook the cable between the two machines. Share everything on the machine to
which they are connected (i.e printer, flash card, thumbdrive, etc). Both
machines will access them happily.

Doens't have to change anything else, including your modem and your KVM.

A $10 cable.

Hello!

Please don't tell me that I SHOULD HAVE set up a simple network. I
already know that now, Sooooo here're my problems with the KVM.

I finally have a KVM for my two Dell 2400's . One Dell is a Celeron 4.3
and the other is a Pentium 4.3 This indicates to me that there are
two different motherboards. Is so?

Before KVM, when I turned on my Surge protector or the UPS, the
Pentium booted automatically, whereas the Celeron had to be booted
manually from the case button. That never bothered me until I had them
plugged into the UPS. Now, with BOTH plugged into the UPS, If I want
the Pentium, I simply let it boot automatically; but, if I want to use
the Celeron I have to shut down the Pentium using the case button
BEFORE it goes into Windows, and then I have to boot the Celeron
manuallyusing the case button.

Short of putting one Dell on the UPS and the other on its own surge
protector...would there be a better way?

BUT, I did solve the modem problem by daisy chaining the RJ11 Tele
cable, using a $2.98 splitter! Yippeee!

Now I'm stumped on USB . I would like to be able to use the Printer,
Scanner, Flash Card, Thumb Drive, etc. My 79 year old brain is not
capable of figuring that one out. I tried all day to diagram it, but
alas. Can someone help. please?

When these problems are solved I'll be able to use any piece of
hardware with either PC, without that dreadful cable switching. Also,
I have different software packages on each PC, giving me that extra
hard drive space. Utilities and drivers of course are duplicates.

Many, many thanks for all help in the past, and for any that maybe
forthcoming!
