One final thought about the video card -- a dedicated card might be
able to work with the next version of Windows - Vista, due out in Jan
2007.
It's another reason to consider it, but chances are that it will be
better to run the laptop you buy with XP until you buy another one.
I plan on keeping my laptop, my desktop for a long time, maybe until
Vista SP2 :-)
I think (famous last words) that today's laptops and desktops, unlike
those in the past, will be "useful enough" for a much longer period of
time -- after all, today's desktops and laptops can handle high-speed
Internet, audio / video, photo, and information processing tasks just
fine.
At a certain point processing speed doesn't matter anymore, hard disk
space doesn't matter anymore -- until the next large incremental
change, which I think will take longer than in the past.
