Well, I've had good luck with removable hard drive racks, which are
available for as low as $9 or so. These are for IDE drives, and there
are others for SATA:

(Get more than one, the fans don't last forever).

I wouldn't take such a drive with me, though, I'd lock it in a safe at
home. Hard drives don't much like being bounced around...
