Re: dell laptop does not turn off

can you exactly describe what happens when you tell the computer to shut
down? And have you closed all Programs first?

- Does it perform a restart?
- Are you still inside the Explorer and can use the open programs?
- Do you see just a blue screen with blue background and your moving
mouse?
- Do you see a window that tell you something like "Running logoff
scripts" or so?


And what have you done before this problem occurs? (e.g. Have you
installed any new software?)

Can you press Ctrl-Alt-Del to get the taskmanager? If so: Check the
running processes. You can try to kill them one by one to see, if windows
can complete the shutdown after such a kill?

Just a few ideas for more information.
