Re: Stuck at Dell Logo?

the orange light on the motherboard is know as the 'flea light'. it
indicates that the motherboard has power. it requires power when it is
'off' so that it can wakeup on lan, phone ring, etc. be sure to unplug the
power from the unit and then hold the power button down until the flea light
goes dark before you add or remove anything (including ribbon cables to be
safe). you can also try to diagnose this problem by simply completely
removing the drive ribbon cables from the motherboard end and then boot to
see if you get further along. then add one cable with one drive back one at
a time to see which the culprit may be. it could be a faulty ribbon cable,
it could be a faulty drive. it is not *likely* to be a motherboard issue.

Thanks for that guide.

"Reseat the IDE cables. If the problem persists, see "Contacting Dell"
in the Solutions Guide for instructions on obtaining technical
assistance."

...is the one i get. I messed around with the cables. Sometimes it
still does the same things, other times i can actually get into the
setup, and I get 'no hard drives found' messages, whether I am in the
setup or not. :(

Maybe I'll bring some different ribbon cables home from work and try
those. That solid orange light on the motherboard worries me though. It
comes on when the computer is just plugged in. I dont even have to hit
the power button. Maybe its the power supply?
