If the message your getting reads something like "This computer is in use
and has been locked. Only XXX or an administrator can unlock this computer,"
then it is a setting that was changed. Note that the name and password of
the last user that was logged on will also unlock the computer in this case.
Check you screensaver, as previously stated, and clear the "prompt for
password on resume" box. Could also be in power settings => advanced =>
"prompt for password when computer resumes from standby".
Lastly, if *no one* has the Administrator password for this system you
should remedy that before you need it. There's free software to reset the
Admin password; check Google.

This just problem just started. We get prompted after leaving the
machine for a few hours and coming back to do more work.
The only cure at the moment is to hit the master switch and then
restart.
Have current anti virus software, spy ware etc.
Hmm ... last week Netscape lost all its bookmarks and email. We got
the blue screen of death because of the graphics driver. I did
download a newer version but have not installed it as sometimes newer
is not better and the driver problem be sub related.
And this morning our key board went out. Had a new in box one to
replace it. Related?
Well the prompt has come up after the machine sits idle for a few
hours, but not all the time. Guessing, shutting it down by pulling
the plug is just going to lead to other problems.

Have you checked your Screen Saver settings?
