Re: Another dilemma

i don't know if that could enable a disabled account or create an account if
one dosen't exist (that is if they did somehow delete the administrator
account). also if registry damage is the real culprit here i don't think it
will be possible to fix it... you have to be able to log in to move the
preserved first succesful boot registry into place and the log in is
precisely the problem.

What about Hiren's Boot CD or Ultimate Boot disk. I seem to recall at
least one of those having a utility that could reset Windows passwords
both for Administrator and other accounts.

follow up after reading some of your other remarks....
do you get a username and password box or do you get a list of usernames
and when you click one a password box appears.
if you get the former then type in 'administrator' as the username and no
password (blank) and see if you can get in. if it is the later then not
only has this person managed to have disabled their user account but it
sounds like they deleted the adminsitrator account (i didn't think you
could do that). or the registry has simply become corrupted.... and your
only recourse is to extract the data from the disk as previously
described and reload the os.

sounds like your friend has managed to disable their account... so no
password will work.
your only hope is to start in safe mode and log on as administrator and
then enable the user account and set the password.
if that isn't possible then you can take the hard disk from this machine
and connect it to another computer as something other than the primary
drive and extract the data off of it (unless it has been encrypted or
some such thing). once you get your data then you can return the disk to
the original system and reload windows.

If anyone here can offer a suggestion that could possibly work I'd

Couple of ideas to try...

Have you simply tried pressing "enter" to see if it bypasses it ?

Yes. I get "Your account has been disabled. Please see your system
administrator."
