Re: Dell Sucks

I might just have to try picking up a different hard drive. I booted to
bios and the system remained stable. I also tried Jay B's advice (thanks
Jay B!) and booted the system from the cd drive using Bart PE and the system
remained stable, no freezups or blue screens.
Would that point to a possible hard drive problem?
The most common message I get in the blue screens is
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Other blue screens I sometimes get:
BAD-POOL-HEADER
PAGE-FAULT-IN-NONPAGED-AREA
BAD-SYSTEM-CONFIG-INFO
DRIVER-CORRUPTED-MMPOOL
PFN-LIST-CORRUPT
BAD POOL-CALLER
I know these errors point towards a bad driver, but I am not sure why the
system never blue screens if the laptop is warmed up enough?
Thanks everyone for your excellent advice and sympathies. I really dread
calling Dell again and going around in circles with them again but I suppose
I will have to give it yet another try.

Might be worth buying a spare hard drive and doing a fresh XP install on
it. Don't install anything but XP and see if the problem persists.

By the way, what is the message when it blue screens? If it constantly
reboots, turn off automatic restart.

Yes I have tried running memory testing diagnostics and left it checking
the ram for over 24 hours without finding any problems. I think I am
having difficulty detecting the problem because it only occurs in the
first few minutes when the machine is warming up.
I have tried replacing the extra RAM with no success but this laptop has
on-board Ram which cannot be removed.
Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
Don

Sounds like maybe it could be faulty RAM. Try some different RAM or use
a memory tester (software).
