Might be worth buying a spare hard drive and doing a fresh XP install on it.
Don't install anything but XP and see if the problem persists.
By the way, what is the message when it blue screens? If it constantly
reboots, turn off automatic restart.

Yes I have tried running memory testing diagnostics and left it checking
the ram for over 24 hours without finding any problems. I think I am
having difficulty detecting the problem because it only occurs in the
first few minutes when the machine is warming up.
I have tried replacing the extra RAM with no success but this laptop has
on-board Ram which cannot be removed.

Sounds like maybe it could be faulty RAM. Try some different RAM or use a
memory tester (software).
