i'm convinced that the operating system on your hard drive is bad, either corrupted from malware/spyware or from a physically bad harddrive.
so to fix your problem, you have to boot off something other than your hard drive. either boot the dell resource disk and run the diagnostics fully, and make sure your memory, motherboard and hard drive is fine.
if all the hardware is fine, then your OS needs adjsutment.
the way i would fix that is mount that disk in another system or as an external hard drive to another working system, and check the thru the files for malware. you can also perform a manual system restore of the registry files at this time, otherwise, you can backup any work files and documents, and then do a full format of the harddrive and reinstall the OS from scratch.
if you are in the new york area, i can help you easier.

Hi Jay,.
Thanks for your reply.
I neglected to mention that I only get this:
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent
damage
to your computer"
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
stop error message when I'm trying to boot windows from the CDROM, and
I either try a restore/repair... this happens when I hit F8
Perhaps if I change the BIOS to go directly to the CDROM 1st this
wouldn't happen?
None of the Safe modes,Debugg,Restore work.... I get lines of test on
the screen
with :
Multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)Partion(2)\Windows\system32\ntosKrnl.exe
" ' \HAL.DLL
\kDcom.dll
\BootVID.dll
\Config\System
Thats where it ends, the system is unresposive after this.
So I can't even get into safe mode.
I ran the Dell extended diagnostics test yesterday, and everything
passed..so I'm at
a standstill.
So I doesn't seem I can get into the system currently to disable any
startup scans..
I did have Norton Internet Security installed so that could most likely
have been the
scan.. :(
Once I can get this up and running how do I program the Power button to
do a shut-off
when pressed?
Any further ideas?
Right now my system won't even alow me to reinstall windows from the
CDROM...
there must be somthing I need to bypass to allow this to work.??
Thanks
Clint
