It's pretty simple. New promotions come out on Thursday and run
through Wednesday of the following week. Coupons offered online have
similar time frames.
You may be right about false advertising -- I don't know, I haven't
paid attention. I do know that all of the configurations I have
pulled up on the Small Business site recently did seem to bottom out
at the lowest price. It may be that you have to downgrade some
components.
If you could provide a link to an example of the web site showing a
price without being able to configure it at that price without going
somplace else directly linked to the price, then I would like to see
it. Seeing is believing for me in this case.
And, if it's true, then you have a good point. I despise fals
advertising. I received a letter with an official looking envelope
telling me that I won a $1,600 cruise. They used deceptive
advertising on their envelope, but unfortunately I have no recourse.
In those situations I am better off letting go and radically accepting
that it's a situation I have no influence over.
Anway, if it's true that Dell is using deceptive advertising, and you
can post a link of where I can complain to, I will.

Hi,.
I recently tried to purchase a Latitude 510 from the dell.com website.
It is shown as costing 649$ (after instant savings). However, when
selecting it (to try to purchase it) you get to a page with 4 models
with the cheapest at 799$ (after instant savings).
Not being able to buy it at the advertised price I contacted DELL
(please see complete email thread below), but the result was that they
in the end referred to an 'Online Promotion' that apparently runs all
week (and I don't see how this was an Online Promotion anyway), and
after my reply to their last email I simply received no more replies
from them!
I think this is very blatant false advertising. Someone located in the
US should sue them or complain to relevant authorities (I can't, I'm
not in the US).
I have seen this type of pricing with other dell models as well. They
need to be stopped.
(Pls. note that the email thread below has the latest email in the top
and the first email at the bottom. Also note if you follow the link in
the first email, that webpage has now been removed by dell )

Dear Dell,
First of all it says nothing about 'online promotion', and nothing
about a
time-period. It only says 'limited time offer' but gives no details as
to when
the offer runs out.
Secondly, what you are saying makes little sense to me, it seems you
are
saying the promotion runs from thursday through to wednesday, meaning
the
entire week and then starting again? This sounds like it actually runs
all the
time, except for the 1 second between wednesday 11:59:59pm and thursday
12:00:00am. Please let me know how this works. Please also direct me to
a link
where the rules of this promotion are stated.
Thirdly, I don't see anywhere on the page in question
(http://www1.us.dell.com/
content/products/productdetails.aspx/latit_d510p?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd)
stating that I have to buy it at a certain time or day in order to take
advantage of the $649 price.
It quite clearly states 649$ but since it is apparently impossible to
actually
get it at that price, this amounts to false advertizing because when I
do try
to get it the price suddenly jumps to 799.

Dear Dell,
Thanks for your concern. However, if I do follow the 'customize' link,
I
get into a page where I can buy a model for 1288$ or another model for
799$ (both after 'instant savings'). The model offered on the initial
page
says 649 after instant savings. Please let me know the exact chain of
links I must follow in order to complete this purchase. If you go to
the
page and try to buy this model at that price you will see what I mean.
Thanks.

Tobias

Hi,
On the page for the Latitude 510 it says I can buy it for $649, however
I
don't see a link where I can see specs for that particular laptop at
that
particular price. If I click 'customize it' I get into a page where the
cheapest is 799. What's going on? Please let me know how I can buy it
at
the 649 price.
The link to this page with the stated $649 price is here:
