I recently bought a CDRW/DVD-ROM combo drive for my Latitude C640 laptop
(6P811-A00, though windows XP detects it as HLDS GCC-4240N). The drive is
showing in windows explorer and device manager (as working properly) but I
cannot for the life of me get it to read any disc I throw at it. I tried
a
home-burnt CDR, CDRW, DVD-R, also tried store-bought DVDs, driver CDs,
nothing... it just doesn't seem to be reading the discs. Can anyone help?
It doesn't look like a specific driver for 6P811-AOO can be found on
Dell's
site so it should work with the generic one I suppose...
Mike,
Unless there's something I've missed, it doesn't sound like a driver issue
but instead a bad drive.
Out of curiousity, will it write to a disc or will it not detect any media
present at all?
Stew
