My daughter recently bought a used Dell PC system which I hooked up
at her home for use in Internet surfing, games and light document
work. The problem is that the previous owner seemed to be one of
those people that downloaded every damn utility that came down the
pike resulting in there being all these toolbars and other processes
running in the background and filling her quick launch and tray area
to the point where there's almost no taskbar left.
I'd like to dump everything and just start over with a fresh XP
installation but I'm concerned about there being no Dell "Restore
Disk" which I assume probably came with the unit and was evidently
lost. Can one just format and use a generic XP install on a Dell
desktop without problems arising from a proprietary bios?

Here's hoping the original owner didn't make one and lose it. Thanks for the
link.
