Peeps -
I need help from anyone who's actually configured PC Anywhere and gotten it
to work consistently, securely and in a stable manner.
I have someone who's insisting that I help with the install/setup of PC
Anywhere in a very small office. The remote connection abilities are to
allow a consultant to access the office "server" to monitor day-to-day
office scheduling, revenues, etc.
The target host/network is:
- A P4 machine (hardware is fine) running WinXP Home behind a DLink DI 524
wireless router utilizing a DSL 384k connection. Two other systems in the
small office are networked and internet enabled via the router.
------------
In scanning, searching and reading - I find conflicting or confusing
information as to how I will need to configure this to work.
-I have the impression that we'll need a static IP. True or No?
-The "Help" files within PC Anywhere seem to suggest that for DSL or Cable
that a VPN needs to be utilized. True or No?
- I suspect that I will need to re-configure the router settings and
possibly forward some ports. True or No?
Lastly, what is the simplest most cost-efficient manner in which to provide
these folks with remote access? (The consultant shoved the software down
their throats and billed them for it.)
-PC Anywhere
- WinXP remote access
- GoToMyPC
I need some firsthand experienced comments if anyone out there has pulled
this off. My experience with this particular product is squat.
Thanks in advance.........
Stew
