I am planning on buying a PCI USB 2.0 Port card in my Dimension 8200.
I have a couple or so USB 2.0 devices and I hate getting that stupid
USB 2.0 Pop Up Message from XP.
I have 2 questions.
1. Both slots above(and below the NIC Card) and below my audio card
are PCI slots right? The answer is probably yes but I want to make
sure.
2. Does it matter which slot I put the PCI Card in?
I also have a memory question. If I take out the RAMBUS memory, can I
put in other types of memory or am I forced to buy RAMBUS memory?
Thanks
Dan
1) Yes, the white slots are all PCI.
2) Shouldn't, but it may. Pick one after installing the software CD for
the USB card and powering down and unplugging.
Good luck,
Stew
XP installs the drivers itself. I got it installed already. I didn't
even break a sweat or get a heart attack or anything.
I also bought a 80 Gig External Drive, it was price as an internal one
and is perfectly quiet.
Thanks Stew
Dan
Excellent. I bought an "el-cheapo" USB 2.0 card (WinFast brand, maybe?).
I had to coax it (trying different slots) even after feeding the system
the software first.
That's what I get for $15. (g)
Glad it worked out.
Stew
Drive.
I didn't really have to force mine, once I put the card in the line and
press down the green hatch by Dell. It pretty much went into place.
I was able to copy 30+ Gigs of My Documents stuff including music in about
half an hour.
I had a hard time opening the Hard Drive plastic box than installing both
stuff.
Thanks again
Dan
Yeah, those plastic boxes are killers :-) Pat
