One reason to keep old copies around is to be able to submit corrected
returns. The real problem is that you will need the last/latest updates to
be able to install/run it.
When I'm done with a year's TTAX, I do the following:
1) Output Fed and NY returns (complete & for submission) as PDF files. Store
them on a CD
2) Download the "manual" update files from the Intuit web site. Store them
on a CD
3) Uninstall the application. Actually, I wait until the next year (lots of
space) just in case....
