Re: Monitor adivice...need a new one.

did you look on dell outlet site for a used m993??
best bet is to get it right from dell. it will come with complete warranty.

Whoever tried to sell you the Dell M993 did not know what he was doing. The
monitor was attached and running with a default refresh rate of 60Hz, guaranteed
to flicker under fluorescent light and to give you headaches from using it. It
is child's play to select a faster refresh rate in Display properties. The $149
price seems a little steep to me. For $149, I would expect a decent warranty.
As a basis of comparision, I give one-year warranties on all the used monitors I
sell. Once in a while, a used monitor fails and I have to replace it.

I like the M993, and I've sold a bunch of them used, with never a return. I am
not familiar with the Samsung 997mb, but contemporary Samsung monitors are well
regarded... Ben Myers

Hello,

I am in need of a new monitor. I have a Dell4600 with a 128mg NVidea card. My 17" Samsung with magic bright needs replaced, though I still love it & have yet to find anything locally that I like.

I do not want a LCD Flat Panel.

This narrows down to only two CRT models.
1. Dell M993 19"
2. Samsung 997mb also has magic bright ( allows for multilple levels of brightness, text, internet, multimedia).

Problem is, no stores have these & I would need to order online without actually seeing them.

Anyone have any of these models & how do you like it?

I went & looked at a Dell P992 with Trintron tube that a local dealer got in ( guess he bought a batch of them, brand new he says). He wanted $149. So I asked to see what the display looked like. He hooked it up, beautiful display, but the whole screen flickered. Setting the refresh raete did not help. He said it was due to the lights in the store. I mean common, this was a small store. Best Buy & those kind of stores have much more lighting. So, in taling with some other techs, they agrred that this was a bad one. So, I was not going to buy one of his.

Which brings me back to the Dell or Samsung I mentioned above.

Thanks for any advice,
Your pal,
Woodrow
