I got a Dell Photo Printer/Scanner combo (Model 922, I think) for $20
extra when I got my Dimension 8400 Christmas 2004. I'm not particularly
happy with some of the output of the printer. Graphics printed on
normal paper have a distinct line between passes which is annoying
except at the highest resolutions (more ink used, of course). I must
say that the photos it prints on photo paper are good and the scanner
works like a charm. All in all, for $20, it does what I want it to
except really high quality photo printing. I'm looking into a Canon
photo printer for that purpose as they seem to get excellent reviews.
As for ink, I haven't had to purchase any yet, but the printer doesn't
get high use. I don't think the ink prices are that much considering
how little I use the printer. In comparison, they are a full $10 less
than the ink for my mother's HP Photo Printer.
