Please recommend email software

I need something that will let me specify the port number for the
outgoing mail server and I want something free. I tried Mozilla
Thunderbird. It doesn't have this feature though diagrams I saw for it
show that it does. Maybe I have a buggy version.

I don't want Outlook Express (security problems) and I don't think I
want Eudora. Eudora doesn't let me get mail most of the time, it seems
to freeze up until I close the program.
