Re: Anyone know how to reset the display adapter monitor back to default settings?

i did try that at one point to see which was working, but not usually.
but even so that should still work, shouldnt it.
i've had 2 cables in before and it worked. in fact, i would think it could be used as a poor man's KVM. and switch between 2 systems, but havnt had the need to try it myself.

could it be that you have both an analog cable and a digital cable pluged into the monitor at the same time?

very nice thoughts indeed.
yes already tried that to no avail.
the screen works fine upon bootup, bios is good, safemode is good,
you're probably right, its the digital mode that seems to be bad,
had both cables connected at the same time to 2 different flat panels, one in analog and one in digital, the analog started up and then blanked out.

could it be that the digital port on the card blew out by running the scan rate too high?? never seen that before. will try pulling another card from another computer. tried another spare nvidia and it also was blank. couldnt find a 2nd spare sitting around. i need an older style AGP.

i'm getting busy on another project so will have more time to play with this much later. thanks again.

OK, here's a crazy thought.
What is the chance that the Display settings in Windows were set yo use the Digital connector rather than the Analog?

The 1905 should have connectors and cable to be able to hook up to either DVI or Analog outputs on the video card.

IF for some reason, the Display settings are set for Digital, but you are only hooking up the Analog port on the 1905, You won't see anything.
Been there, done that.....

Without reading back through the entire thread, When you first power up the system, do you see ANYTHING on the screen before it gets to Windows? The normal BIOS screens should be coming out of the analog port of the video card.

If you see that, but the screen goes blank one it gets into Windows, then Windows may be set to Digital mode. Quite possible that during Safe Mode, Windows would default to Analog, so you would be able to see things in Safe mode.

If it's set to Digital, that would also explain why it works on other computers yet other monitors aren't working on it.

Just for grins, hook up both the Analog and the DVI cables from the 1905 to the video card, and start Windows.

One of the buttons (middle one?) on the 1905 should switch it from analog to digital mode. (I have a 1901, the 1905 may be a bit different). Boot the system to Windows and try switching the monitor between Analog and Digital modes to see if that makes a difference.

Just a thought , unless of course you already tried that.

Thanks Chris
of course i removed from device manager several times and it does come back and prompts for a driver, i tried to skip it, put in the new driver again, and each time i still get the blank screen afterward.
the other weird thing is that there were 4 monitors listed under the montitor section. and after deleting them, they are all gone and cant get anything else to go back in there, not even the 1905.

i suggest deleteing the video display adapter from system properties while in safe mode.
it should be automatically added back when you restart normally.
it sounds as if you have set it to resolution and/or the refresh rate too high for the 1905fp and your other monitors.
the native resolution for the 1905fp is 1280x1024 @ 60hz (higher refresh rate is meaningless since this is a lcd display - there is no flicker like a crt would have). the 1905fp is capable of automatically detecting a signal up to 76hz.

I need to reset nvidia display adapter back to normal from safe mode?

winxp system was running fine until i added new dell 1905fp monitor. the montior worked fine originally, then i updated the video driver

from the nvidia site, and also the dell monitor driver from the dell

site. it worked, then i adjusted display properties by adjusting the resolution, then scan rate, and now it always shows a blank screen from normal and vga mode start ups.

i can get in with safe mode, but cant seem to restore the settings.
already did a system restore to the prior day with no luck. removed the video drivers with no luck.

Any ideas?

i think it was the scan rate being set to a high value of 120, and that's when the screen went blank and never came back.

yes, the 1905 works on other computers, and other montiors also are blank on this computer, so the problem is with the software configuration some where.
