Yes, they do, just another income stream they have tapped to keep the
cost to the end-used down. This is also another reason small builders can't
match the big builders prices. Still beats me as how this a good deal for
the companies that pay to have their software pre-installed. Last I
checked, AOL was still running about 20(+)% of their customer base on free
trial hours. AFAIK, there are still low budget types who are online only by
the grace of those free trial hours and swap out providers monthly.
Whenever one free trial period ends, they just load up another ISPs free
trial disk and run with it until the free trial ends.
