One of my very first calls was for an inspiron 8000 motherboard
replacement. The only thing the customer did was "touch" the
touchpad, and a static zap blasted out the compter....refused to even
turn on.
I don't know if it will help, but from this experience I would say the
computer is susceptible to static electricity discharge.
