Re: USB Headset on Dim 8300. Mic doesn't work on 1 front USB (huh?)

I am not in total agreement with this statement. From the computers I have
used / built the front and back (header board) USB connectors have come from
identical plugs on the motherboard and i have had this problem on any random
plug with a different periferal. Always resolved by plugging it in somewhere
else or even sometimes just unplugging and replugging to the same socket.
Well thats just my opinion.

I have noticed and others have suggested, that if you have multiple USB
ports on a PC. That one or both of the ports located on the front of the PC.
Does not provide sufficient power to USB devices to power them alone. So you
will need to connect them to the ports on the back of the PC. It might be
that the microphone component of your headset, probably needs additional
power that the front USB port(s) cannot provide. And needs to be connected
to the back of the PC.

[Dimension 8300 / Win XP S2]

I have a new Logitech "Premium USB Headset 350", and noticed something odd:

Of the two USB ports under the front flap of my Dimension 8300, one of them
will cause the mic part of the headset to fail. But the sound still comes
through fine (and the on-cord volume control still controls the computer
volume fine). It's just that the microphone acts as if it is muted.

If I move the headset to another USB, like the closer of the two USB's, or
off to even one of the USB1 ports on my old USB1 hub, the mic works.

What would make just one of the USB ports uncompatible with the headset's
mic?

Thanks,

Thomas
