lto drives are backwards compatible with older lto tapes... the dlt drives
are backwards compatible with older dlt tapes. if you don't have any legacy
tapes then the backward compatibility should not matter to you. the lto has
faster throughput and more capacity, more bang for the buck. quantum.com
has some nice sizing tools that help you choose the right device with
consideration to both capacity and the amount of time spent on backup...
they also have some good white papers.
