I have an Inspiron 600m and it's hard drive seems to have developed a reasonably
quiet, but ever-so-annoying, high-pitched whine, audible only when it is idle. I've
had it for more than a year, so it's not under warranty anymore.
Could this be the beginning of something terrible?
Device manager reports the drive as HTS548040M9AT00.

Being reasonably quiet under load is highly desirable. ... at similar speed, 80mmCPU fan at ~1000rpm, and a quiet 7200rpm HDD which is nonetheless the most subjectively audible component.... According to Furmark the GPU also runs pretty cool (40C idle, 60C load).... (uk.comp.homebuilt)
