Windows 95/98/ME will not adjust nicely to running different hardware. The BSOD
is most likely caused by a hard drive set up for one set of hardware drivers,
and the XPS R450 having very different hardware. If you can boot up the system
in safe mode, go to the System icon under Control Panel and delete the hardware
drivers for the graphics card and hard disk controller, then try to install the
drivers for the R450, downloaded from the Dell web site. The chances of sucess
are less than 50%, but worth a try. You also need a valid Windows Certificate
of Authentication product key.
Compare this with Linux, which adjusts its hardware configuration gracefully
every time the system boots up... Ben Myers
