XPS Earphone/Mic

Am just about to call Dell Support and get yet another
headphone/microphone assembly for my son's XPS. We've ruined two
headphone/mic sets (one cheap, one expensive) on this darn thing. Both
times the earphones went out first then would not work on other
computers afterwards.

Dell promplty sent us a replacement assembly but not THAT one has
stopped working and has blown another headset. I've looked back
through this NG and found no mention of this being an ongoing issue so
thought I'd shoot a kite to y'all and see if anyone has had the same
issues?
