Just a few facts I read in a recent article. Usually find thinking
about this kinda stuff helps a lot when the cravings get bad. It's
just not worth lighting up!! Anyway, thought I would share...

1. Carbon Monoxide levels in a cigarette are 10,000 times more
concentrated than that produced by motorway/freeway traffic in a
rush hour. It's main effect is to lower the oxygen levels in the
blood by about 15%. It starves vital organs of oxygen and makes
the blood sticky which can increase the risk of heart attacks and
    strokes.
2. A drop of nicotine injected straight into the bloodstream will
kill an adult, while a child can be poisoned from eating one
    cigarette butt.
3. When nicotine burns it creates substances called nitrosamines.
These are horrifyingly carcinogenic.A typical non-smoker absorbs
1 microgram of these a day and a smokers absorb 17 micrograms per
pack of 20 smoked. A rocket fuel plant in the USA was found to be
emitting an amount equivalent to 14 micrograms a head and was
    closed down for safety reasons!!
4. Some of the chemicals produced in burning tobacco include
hydrogen cyanide (used in the gas chambers), formaldehyde,
    arsenic and ammonia.
5. Tobacco contains cadmium, the same metal found in car
batteries!! It is another carcinogen that mutates the cells of
    the lungs.
6. A smoker of 30 cigarettes a day is exposed to the radiation
equivalent of 300 chest X-rays a year. This is because cigarettes
contain a radioactive substance called polonium. Many believe this
is the worst carcinogen in cigarettes acounting for up to 90% of
    lung cancers.

I just printed these out to paste on the bathroom mirror. Thank you, I
