Re: Another Major ISP Drops Usenet

Well if Panix drops the news groups, I am not sure what I will do. Know it will come sooner than I think, LOL.

Thanks Steve. I'll check it out. I also use Xnews for my reader.

As of June 30th, Cox Cable will no longer be offering Usenet as part
of its service package.

Guess I'll have to learn how to use Google Groups or keep some degree
of contact via Facebook. One way or another I SHALL stay smoke-free.

This pattern of ISP's dropping newsgroup service could be a major
reason why we see so few posts here.

Yeah, I think it is certainly a sign of the times, what with social
media/social networking all the rage nowadays. Online communities
have exploded the last few years and I think it all comes down to
ISP's going where their bread and butter is: providing bandwidth not
services. I urge you to explore Eternal-September for an independent
portal into Usenet. It's free, it's relatively easy, and it is news
reader agnostic. I personally use X-news as my newsreader, but it
works with any newsreader. You need to register and then set up your
newsreader. Once you register, click the link for "Technical
Information" and this will help you get a client set up. Here's the
