Are there any legal eagles here?
Could anyone speculate on the prospects of getting a class action suit
against Big Tobacco, on the grounds of how Big Tobacco concealed and
obfuscated scientific data on tobacco's addictiveness?
The idea would be for a very large number of people to seek compensation
for the money they spent on tobacco, plus punitive damages, for the fact
that Big Tobacco knew the stuff was addictive but for so many years tried
to cover it up.
The bottom line could come into the tens or hundreds of billions.
I suspect that the settlements in the US may have precluded such suits
in the future as part of the deal. There's also the statute of
limitations that started running when the info was available to the
general public. But I could be entirely wrong about this.
