Today I had my first visit with a new doctor. He's a kidney
specialist that I find myself in need of because of complications from
diabetes.

As he was reading through my medical history and asking me questions
he asked if I smoke. When I told him I'd quit 5 years ago he paused
for a few seconds then looking directly at me said, "If you hadn't
quit I'm sure you'd be dead by now."

Wow! Nobody's ever been that blunt, but in that instant I decided I
like the guy. Straight to the point with no bullshit. :-)

I know I haven't given near as much support as I could have but I never quite made the mark and although I used to think I could probably write a book on quitting smoking I didn't make it - I have seen successes here and I've seen people disappear - I always felt in awe of the successes cos I never quite managed to get it together but I'd console myself with the fact that I never quit quitting. ... I won't be posting any milestones until it is really a significant milestone because I've been there done that and let myself down ... ...
