Ian, do read what Carmen wrote in her second posting to you. You
*CAN* do this. You have to start by giving yourself permission to
make it happen. As long as you say 'I can't' you have already set the
die for failure. When you say 'I can" you give yourself permission to
make it happen. Quit smoking for just TODAY. When you wake up
tomorrow, before you smoke anything, come here and read and then
decide if you want to give yourself permission to be smober for that
day. You do this and you will find you will be successful sooner and
longer than you ever expect at this present time. And *if and when*
you do get an urge that is huge, like a tidal wave, BEFORE you give in
and smoke, come here first and post that you are in that situation.
It is very likely someone will respond to you in a few minutes and you
just may find the lifeline you need to hang in there and keep your
quit going. Many of us count hours, even minutes, in the beginning so
do not expect getting smober to be a cakewalk for us and not for you.
Many of us have been in your shoes before and got through it. You can
do so as well as long as you give yourself permission to succeed.

I do hope you continue to post here as you are definitely ready to
make it happen.
