I got busy, but if I left a lot out let me know and all update with
the whole story if you think it is of interest.

You are an inspiration. I was ill recently and confined to a bed for a few
weeks, so I had to go through a couple of weeks of in-patient physical
therapy to learn how to walk and lift objects again, and I still don't get
around all that well after over a month out of the hospitals. Still have
peripheral neuropathy, which is annoying as all get-out when my hands are
clumsy from the numbness or my feet hurt. I lean on a trekking pole to walk
around the yard and garden on uneven ground, but I don't use my cane much
anymore. Today I rode a bicycle (slowly and unsteadily) for the first time
in a while. So I'm making progress and expect a full recovery except maybe
for the nerve damage and the necessity for blood tests for at least a while.
Unlike you (it sounds like), I let the depression get to me. I get
discouraged and frustrated. After I quit smoking ten years ago, I used to
kayak, climb mountains, power-lift weights, and now here I am learning to
ride a bike again. All my expensive toys are gathering dust, except to the
extent I can use my light weights for further strength-building. I wish I
had your motivation and "just do it" attitude. If somebody told me I had to
haul firewood right now I'd probably burst into tears. If you have a
moment to lecture me or commiserate, Mike, I'll be glad to read it. In any
event, thanks for the uplifting post and I hope your recovery continues
apace.

The prologue for those that don't know what happened is that I
shattered both my femurs, and they installed titanium rods. I'm
bionic now LOL. I've been off the crutches and cane for awhile now.
My last check up in July the surgeons said I'm beyond what they hope
to see. Two weeks ago the physical therapists where I was going said
they didn't have the equipment to take me any further. The truth is
I've gotten real good at fishing LOL, but don't do stairs or ladders
to well yet. The other thing is I'm now more accurate then the
weatherman for what the weather is doing. I've got three screws thru
each knee and some kind of flange in each hip and I know when its
damp. Earlier this summer I tried to get relatives and friends to
come help me burn the winter debris and downed trees. Everyone alway
tells me just let them know when I need help LOL. Then came the burn
ban. All my adult life I've kept my parents in firewood. My mother
is now 90 and I asked the family for help getting her winter wood in.
I have acreage. Yep same people said just ask still no show.
Here's my meter
Four years, ten months, two days, 13 hours, 11 minutes and 52 seconds.
53026 cigarettes not smoked, saving $14,582.28. Life saved: 26 weeks,
2 days, 2 hours, 50 minutes.
Since I was determined to get her firewood in for this winter I went
and bought a backhoe and loader with a thumb, and a 7 ton dump
trailer. So I figure with what I spent I can't smoke for another 6
years.
I already had an old 1945 case tractor and a small John Deere yard
tractor so using all of them to get the logs out of the woods I'm
getting exercise the Physical Therapists never thought of. I'm
waiting to see the look on my relatives face when I deliver the
product. I already heard it when they told me not to pressure wash
the roof they would do it. Yep I did it, got tired of waiting. I
might have found my next career as I've been doing a lot of trenching
for the neighbors.
Getting well is a lot like not smoking. Just do it.

I was wondering why you disappeared.
Did you post what happened and I missed it?
