Linda, you've found one of the very best places online for quit-smoking
support. The people here are brilliant, and gave me a lot of comfort in
my earlier quit.

What I want to add is - you (like all of us) have been using smoking to
suppress a whole bulk of painful feelings. Much of what we label as a
'withdrawal symptom' is really a piece of our emotional 'baggage' coming
up into consciousness. If we allow ourselves to feel this stuff and let
it just pass through, it'll leave for good. Over time, we simply 'run
out' of emotional shit, and our new-found peaceful non-smoking lifestyle
starts to feel really great.

Using smoking, we can push down, and warehouse, unbelievable amounts of
emotional pain. You might like to secure yourself some good sources of
support (eg family, counsellors, quit-smoking phone support etc) to help
you through the release of this pain. Don't just 'white-knuckle' it -
you've got to feel and process the feelings.

Lastly - don't be afraid to share your feelings here and ask for help.
People are all too willing to help and you'll usually find 2 or 3 replies
that really make sense and give comfort.
