So, Michael Jackson has died. Heart failure, they say. Some hints of an over

wouldn't surprise me, I suppose, if it turns out to be true.

Here's something someone posted on the Internet, which I found
relevant and poignant:

"On Behalf of little boys everywhere, I say this:
"He touched us all."

Bloated, dope-riddled sweaty, Vegas-era Elvis died on the crapper, crammed
with pills and junk food and it didn't particularly upset me. I never was an
Elvis fan, except for Jailhouse Rock. Michael was at least twice as weird as
Elvis, so what do we expect...?

You'd think there was nothing else going on in the world at all, today, just
flipping from one channel to another, except that Michael had died. The
latest Capitol Hill "family values" hypocrite has been left in the dust,
poor old wacky Farah and her death from anal cancer barely got a mention
before being eclipsed by it, and that perennial sidekick and straight man Ed
McMahon sounded his last "Hey-oh!"  and has quickly faded from the news.. At
least they didn't find him hanging naked in a closet with a rope tied to his
balls. How sad, David Carradine...

Sad about Michael, too. Incredibly talented kid-- but tragically twisted. I
dug "Billy Jean" and "Beat It", and the moonwalking shtick-- and then sort
of lost interest in him. I wouldn't trade having all his fame and fortune if
it necessarily had to include living the sad, freakish and creepy life he
did.

Something about his passing has failed to really strike a chord in me, the
way John Lennon's death did, or even Groucho Marx's. A difference in style,
age, type of entertainer/entertainment? When those guys left, I felt an
absence, a real sense of loss. Not so, today. The difference? My age now, vs.
my age then? I don't know. I actually shed tears when Lennon was murdered.. I
felt a kinship, a bond with him. I grew up listening to Beatles music.
Jackson's music was... well, basically just occasional background noise. My
reaction to his untimely demise was "He's so young..." and then I realized
I'm only 7 years older than he was.

Sigh...!
Nothing's forever, though some things (and people) ought to be-- if there
were any real justice out there.
When I'm Intergalactic Overlord, there'll be some changes made, believe you
me...
