Well, not all, or smoking would not introduce so much harmful
ingredients into the lungs, causing all sorts of nasty unhealthy
conditions and eventually killing you.
I didn't know the tips were fibre glass now:
when I was about seven, I found a pipe on the beach and took it home.
We had some Royal Navy sailors lodging with us then (everyone did, as the
Navy paid out a weekly sum for their rent. ) and they all smoked their
duty free cigarettes. I solemnly collected the contents of all the
overflowing ashtrays and stripped the paper off and collected the tobacco
in a tin to put in the pipe andsmoke. Some few had tips and just out
of curiosity I broke some
open. There was some stuff like cotton wool and of course it was light brown
and gave out a not unpleasant smell.
That apartment, when the windows were closed against the cold, was filled
with smoke and I was breathing it into my little lungs. Did it do me
any harm?
Not a bit. No breathing problems,and in my teenage years, before I began
smoking, I could easily ride scores of miles on my bicycle.
