... my blocked parotid gland. Basically, this is the saliva gland
located below the ear. And from last Sunday's breakfast, my right one
is blocked so completely the x-ray doctor couldn't locate its opening
in my mouth to inject the dye for the x-ray to show precisely where
this blockage is. (Normally - get that NORMALLY !! ha bloody ha,
blockages are partial, allowing at least enough saliva to escape for
the opening its coming from to be apparent. Not in this case.)

The effect is that when I eat, particularly chewing, a lump the size
of a golfball, or a bit bigger, appears below my right ear. It is of
course composed of the saliva that has no escape into my mouth via its
normal route. It then subsides to a slight swelling & tenderness over
the next couple of hours. A bit of a mystery to me as to where the
spit is going, but there we are. Keep eating for too long however and
it gets really quite painful, and difficult to get my mouth open to
shovel the next forkful in, so half meals and a lot of liquids are the
order of the day. I have to say though that Judith And Her Amazing
Growing Face are quite an attraction locally ... people are more or
less at the stage of buying me meals just for a glimpse of the
exhibition ;)

as to what the maxillo-facial lot are going to make of this, I have no
idea. An appointment is awaited with great interest :) (Yes, it's the
NHS. Yes, it's taking it's time. No, I can't afford to go private and
No, I'm not getting upset about the delay. I'm used to them by now.)
