Nasty!
I also feared the dentist's chair all my life. At age six, I had
seven milk teeth removed, no idea why, and this was done under
a general anaesthetic chloroform was used in those days.
At around age 15, I had the two front teeth removed, because they stuck
out and at that age, one is very self-conscious, well I was anyway.
So, I had a little denture at an early age.
Over the next forty-odd years, they went in ones and twos; I must admit
I did not put the toothbrush to them nearly enough, and paid for it.
Also, drinking hot tea and coffee stiff with sugar was bound to do
something!
finally, my wife's dentist said the remaining ten were just too far gone
for him to do much, and referred me to a dental surgeon.
I insisted on a general anaesthetic. The prospect of having them all out
terrified me but at least two were already so loose they wobbled and
the others had holes in them, so
it had to be done.

That's exactly where I'm at right now, Ian....teeth are loosening up
and falling out. Scared to death of any dentist and haven't found a
good one yet that will knock me out. I'm in need of dentures but at
this rate, all my teeth will be out on their own. If I could find
(and afford) a dentist/oral surgeon who would put me under, I'd be
happy to have them all taken out tomorrow.

Sally

The surgeon gave my wife a pill to give me on the morning of the
appointment, to calm me down, and said he'd never seen such a terrified
patient!
She explained that I had been treated by some real butchers in Britain,
where dentistry is perhaps inferior to the American model: British
dentists are not paid well under the NHS.

I FEEL YOUR PAIN!
Dentists absolutely terrify me!!!
I was blessed with my mothers teeth.
Had my first two root canals at the same time at 17; cracked an upper &
lower molar eating corn nuts.
Over the last 30 years since, I've had two wisdom teeth yanked, plus an
upper R molar and a lower L molar; and about 7 more root canals just for the
fun of it...
Yuk, Phooey! They are all Sadist!

ps: to any dentists in this newsgroup: Sorry, just kidding :-)
