Re: where are the newbies?

Instead of taking 15 puffs of smoke, Lynn spoketh upon us:

It seems like each year we get less and less newbies, which is a good thing
if it meant less people are quitting because less people are smoking.
If you are a newbie and trying to quit or working up to a quit we would
love to get to know you a bit better. How about stepping out of the shadow
of lurkdom and saying hi. We don't bite... well Jef does and Mike likes to
send the Gnomes out on unsuspecting people ,but the rest of us are pretty
normal

I think it's because 10 years ago there were very few forums and blogs
and whatnot. And people discussed things on Usenet. And it was Good.

So what has happened. Usenet has no ads. No one makes any money from
it. So things are being pushed away from Usenet. By people who want to
show us ads. That is the basic truth.

See how we jump on every poor spammer that shows up here, and how good
it feels. And you know who those poor souls are? Usually people who
are struggling to make ends meet.
Well when a giant pop up jumps on you on that blogspotyoutubefacebook
site, there is no one to yell at. And those who set up those ads are
basking in money.

Example? Google. Need any more?
