The same.
On another note, I want to repeat your own advice to Tommy to brief his
cases. The best advice I got from my mentor was to (1) brief every case,
and (2) outline every course for the first year.
The second year you can start learning to decide which cases can be
adequately annotated in the margin and which cases you'll want a full brief
for future reference. Your first year, you should brief them all.
I outlined every single course I took in law school, through the third year.
(And then sold the outlines :-) (Hey, I was poor.)
I cannot imagine going into my own first semester of finals without full
case briefs and the beginnings of a course outline. Your first year is
absolutely *crucial* -- do *everything* you can to get your career off to
the right start. Thereafter, briefing cases is a skill you will hone and
rely on throughout your career. A good case brief is a good reference for a
senior partner when you're young, and a good reference for yourself if you
become a trial lawyer. So start learning how to do it right, right now..
My two cents.

I book briefed but I then outlined the whole course. Integrating in
hornbooks. My outlines pissed off all my friends because they were so
damn long. My best friend from law school is a civ prosecutor and
still uses my civ pro outlines .....
I agree a full brief is preferable to a book brief. What with his
working full time I think this was a compromise. He knows 1st year is
make it or break it year.
I'm going to send hiim your email. Food for thought for him. Thank
you for taking the time to write it out.

PS Am not feeling so confident about outlining in this new academic
enterprise. It is so experiential. I am making grids, tables etc and
still feel I'm not capturing it all .....
