Shadow chose us 5 years ago when we visited a rescue centre.  We had always
had small dogs before and had never thought of owning a lurcher.  But he did
us a favour choosing us and allowing us to be his family.  He had a
wonderful temperament and was a delight to have in our home.   He had slowed
up but, 3 months ago,  after a spell with an upset stomach we took him to
see the vet.  She gave him a couple of antibiotic injections and he was our
old Shadow again.  We were so pleased.  Our daughter visited on Friday and
exclaimed at his weight loss.  He had  gone off his food so back to the vets
he went.  She had him in as surgery was necessary.  When she opened him up
he was found to be full of a particularly invasive cancer, so he was not
allowed to come round.  Of course we had no idea he was so very ill.
But what a shock it was to us.  We adored that dog.  He is buried under his
tree so he can still keep an eye out for the squirrels!  He's like Maude.
He hated them.

I'm next to want some hugs. Both my babies are about 20 years old,
and, even though nobody believes it, it's true. My spaniel, Pete, has
joint and respirotory problems and Brandy, my Shepherd/Chow girl, has
"vertigo" symptoms, although she has learned how to deal with it., I
know they are both so damn old and we are so lucky to have them so
long. We've had them both for over 16 years, and both were adopted
from Humane Society when they were about 4 years old. It's a miracle
we've kept them so long. I guess they just don't want to leave us. How
blessed is that?
Hugs,
Pam
