Well Robin, it was a pretty hard blow, and we lost a lot of trees. My Dutch neighbors
were the ones who fgave us the generator, so you know what I think about you
Hollanders.

:> Hi everyone, I wrote this for you. Have not had power or internet until
:> now, so this
:> is the first chance I've had. WE aer doing fine but life is alittle tough
:> right now.
:> You people who live in Texas in the summer know how it goes. Or Los
:> Angeles or New
:> Mexico. Thanks for all your care and concern. Will try and check in and
:> let oyu
:> klnow how thigns are going. This experience is not universla with
:> everyone who
:> weathered the storm, but it is fairly typical I beleive.
:>
:> ----------------
:> 9/18 Well, Hurricane Ike hit on Friday night last 9/12. We lost power
:> at 430 am on
:> Saturday. It rained all day Saturday. We were very fortunate to not have
:> the house
:> hit by falling trees or anything; a lot of our neighbors in the Woodlands
:> were badly
:> messed up. It turned out as news came in that Galveston and Houston were
:> very badly
:> hit; we were just trying to survive without power in the heat.
:> Fortunately the storm
:> was not so bad in that we still had phone, gas and water; some storms in
:> the past
:> knocked out those amenities. I am aware that a lot of folks were without
:> those too,
:> most those closer to Galveston area.
:>
:> Most problems were caused by lack of power and no petrol; I waited
:> in the sun
:> for 3 hours one day for gas for the gas cans for a generator that our
:> neighbor gave
:> us. The wait was 4 hours the next day, although by that time a cold front
:> had come
:> in, mercifully lowering the temperatures to a lovely 80 degrees during the
:> day; else
:> it would have been ugly . That cold front didn't arrive till Monday as it
:> was, and
:> tempers could get a little short in that heat without power. I went to
:> school on
:> Tuesday because we had to teach, but said I might not come back on
:> Thursday unless I
:> could get some gas.
:>
:> Got some gas yesterday, and the power cam back on Wednesday. I
:> felt guilty
:> having the power come on so quick but my family sure did appreciate it.
:> Still no
:> fresh food in the stores, said stores keeping open with skeleton crews and
:> power
:> generator keeping on the lights.
:>
:> I got some email from my friends on AS3 checking up on me, for
:> which I am
:> truly appreciative. AS3 is such a life-saver. I wanted to write this and
:> get it
:> posted as soon as I could because I know about the disappearance of Mark
:> "Peace of
:> Heart," so I didn't want the rest of you to worry if you hadn't heard from
:> me. We did
:> lose 5 tress, two of which came down in our pool, so it is an ugly mess.
:> And no,
:> Marvin, we are not cleaning it ourselves, we have the service do that. We
:> all want to
:> grow up like Marv.
:>
:> Will try and check in more often. Thanks everyone for your concern
:> and
:> expression of friendship.
:>
:> -John
