Re: What the hell? - Rant

I'll handle this one, guys. Keep in mind that I am a firm believer in
handgun control and would not shed a tear if they were banned. But,
the fact is they are legal, so I deal with it. However, I consider
this an attack on my country and I love it with every fibre of my tree-
hugging, Birkenstock-wearing, Obama-voting liberal being.

That's pretty much wrong on all four counts. I don't know who you've
talked to, but people in America do *not* carry guns every day. While
it is legal to carry handguns in most states, the number of people who
actually carry them is very small. The vast majority of those people
a) carry them concealed, b) are extremely responsible, c) have been
through training with them and d) carry them for self protection.

Everybody does not want money all the time. Well, no more than they
do in the UK or anywhere else.

People are people. Some people help others and some people do not.

It is not a "dog-eat-dog" sort of place. On all four of your
misinformed opinions, there are exceptions. Outside the Starbucks in
Shreveport is an obvious example. The United States is one of the
greatest countries in the world and probably provides more foreign aid
than most other countries combined. In fact, we'd probably be in much
better shape economically if we were to reduce that considerably.

I have
never been there of course and never intend to go there

That's sad, because it is not only a wonderful place to visit, but it
is a great place to live. I've been to several countries around the
world and there's no place I'd rather live. OK, maybe St. Thomas, but
that's because of the weather :-)

but I have seen some
american telly programs and that kind of thing seems to happen the whole
time.

Oh. You've seen our television programs. Well, that explains it.
Haven't you seen "King of the Hill"? We all mostly just stand around
on our sidewalks and drink beer. What's not to like about that?

Or, maybe you mean "Hell's Kitchen". Yes, we do yell at each other
quite a bit, but we cook reallyreally well.

Or, perhaps you're talking about American Idol. Yes, it's true, we
can't sing worth a *** for the most part.

No, you must mean Survivor...no, wait. That's not America.

I've seen Brittish TV as well. Don't you all drive black cars and
wear bowlers? And what's with the canes?

Why don't you live somewhere more civilised?

Why don't you visit and make up your own mind instead of listening to
others and assuming that what you see on our "telly" is representative
of real life? If they showed real life on our television shows,
nobody would watch them because we are, for the most part, just like
everybody else in developed nations--boring.

Have a nice day.
Rob

P.S. I'm really sorry to hear about your ordeal, AZ. It's just one
f^cking thing after another, isn't it?
