I weigh less now than before I came here but I gained my 20 lb or so after
quitting. it does come off.
make some real plans to have other stuff ready to put in your mouth. have
veggies cut up in water in your fridge, suck on sour stuff ( lemon wedges
dill pickles) when you crave sweets. drink more water. but most of all get
moving. 1/2 hour a day walking works wonders even if you have to do 2 -15
mins walks instead.

Hmmmm...I hesitate to write this post, as I try very hard to stay
positive about quitting smoking. Not only for myself, but, for
others as well. 99% of being quit is good. It is wonderful.
HOWEVER. I AM NOT HAPPY WITH GAINING 20# in 2M 3W and 1D. This,
folks, is not good :(
I was on the thin side to begin with 115#. Now...up to 135#. I'm
5'5". I liked wearing the clothes that I had. Now...not the case. I
am wearing bigger and bigger pants. Sweat pants...are getting to be
my clothing of choice :(
I just have to get rid of at least 10-15#'s. I can live with
120-125#. I am not going to get fatter than I am.
Even my husband and kids are giving me grief..."all you do is eat".
"MOM! You are going to get FAT"! (Ugh.) "MOM! DON'T EAT ANYMORE OF
MY HALLOWEEN CANDY...IT'S ALMOST GONE"! :( :( :(
I have to do something to keep me away from food. If it isn't nailed
down...it's in my mouth. Pathetic.
But, overall...I'm happy. I just have to put more vigilance into my
diet. How is everyone here doing in terms of weight gain? Curious
minds want to know :)

PK - What Kathleen and everyone else said makes sense. You can lose
the weight in future, just don't go too crazy with the calories now at
the beginning of your quit. You are substituting food for the oral
fixation of a cigarette. Use healthy substitutes instead of calorie-
laden stuff. Chew sugar-free gum, suck on straws, etc. This WILL pass.
You can gain some weight, as we all did, and you can lose it too, but
it may take some time. Try to exercise and eat a semi-healthy diet. If
you don't, I can relate. I couldn't stay away from chocolate or ice
cream when first quit. I gained almost 30 pounds and have had a devil
of a time losing half of them so far!
Hugs,
Pam
