Hello to all readers. My name is Mike, 36 years old and I live
in Italy. English is not my native language so please forgive
my mistakes.
I started smoking in 1995, I ve tried several times to quit,
but never succedeed, until last tuesday. Today is the 8th
day without cigarettes.
I tried to stop several times, but never succeeded. On the
worst time I was on 25-30 cigarettes/day. The I switched on
rolling cigarettes, and jumped dowd to 10-15 rolls a day.
I changed different tobacco brand over time, I wasn't trying
to smoke, then on June I tried two new brands of tobacco, marketed
as "addictive free". I was thinking to slow down on rolling cigarettes,
but not to quit.
Then I had a small cold, so I had to stay at home for few days.
Before I smoked even when I had colds, with closed nose and so on.
I finished the tobacco, and I was ill.
I think I got cold syntoms mixed with abstinence symtoms, and anyway
I was really weak, so I have not focused on the abstinence itself.
By Saturday almost all the symtoms of the cold were gone, but I
stayed home in the evening because the next sunday I had to go to
an 'official' dinner, so I did not want to risk a cold 'return'.
The problem I have now is that I have substituted the urge to put
something in the mouth with candies and chewing gum, or liquorice
sticks, and I think I had to slow down on these or my blood pressure
will skyrockets.
The next problem I have is when I go out in the evening. Now I have the
likeliness to smoke a cigarette after some events: for instance after
dinner, when I take the 10:45 break at work, when the evening flick
on TV is finished, and so on. At work, the problem is solved: nobody
of the collegues in my room smokes, and I found that what is important
is the break to make a walk, go to the head, and take something at the
vending machine (o in the cafeteria). At home I control it witout
problems.
But going out in the evening and smoking outside, waiting the concert
to start or chit-chatting, was (is) a strong habit of mine. I'll aso see
a lot of people that will smoke. I think I need advices on this.
Thank you for the reading.
Mike
Too cool.
I'm gonna enjoy your being here.
I love when someone says to excuse their english.
They end up speaking in a way that is really much more logical than
what I'm used to.
I love when someone hispanic has just learned english.
They translate the words but keep their speech patterns.
I think to myself, I like it better that way.
Anyway........
Once I got to where you are, it was about substitution.
The times I smoked out of routine, I had to replace the act of smoking
with something else.
It sounds like you are already doing that.
Those times are starting to fade now.
