To my favorite newsgroup (as you will always remain, no matter the time that
passes between our meetings),

Hello, everyone. Success stories need to be passed on, I think, to those of
you who are just beginning this journey. It's important to let you know it
can be done. It's also one of the ways I can pay back for all of the help,
support and friendship that I received when I, too, began this journey, here
in AS3, some time back.

I am Yukpa hashi, also known as PatB. I quit smoking on 5/25/98, 9 years
ago!!! Can you believe that? Oh, my. I am preparing to go to Vision
Quest at the moment, just as I did that first year in 1998. As always, when
I think about those times in my life, I remember that first year of this
journey.

I know there are many common experiences among us. I remember the pain,
confusion, anger, depression, and sometimes, in the beginning, extreme doubt
because I had tried this so many times before. I had no faith. But... I
had to try one more time. Got those grandbabies, you know? I need to see
them grow up. (Jordan, now 17, became the state wrestling champion this
year and Spencer, 15, made it all the way to the semifinals. They grew up
on me!!!) The stories are chronicled on my website but the bottom line is
what I did to finally
quit (www.cognitivequitting.com) has given me 9 years of smoke freedom. How
sweet it is.

To be very truthful with you, I don't think much about all of this anymore.
I can't say the anniversary escaped my notice but it doesn't require the
same celebration around it nowadays. You know what? That's nice.

I am no longer surprised by the fact that I can breathe deeply and not gasp,
trying to catch my breath; sit through a movie; stick around for dessert and
talk; am not tied to nicotine and don't have that driving force to find it
and immediately! (meaning I had no choice); can smell and hear AND TASTE!;
can climb a hill on Vision Quest and pretty much keep up with the youngsters
(this is a very good thing); don't smell like an ashtray, I smell like just
me and I don't wake up in the morning and spend the first 15 minutes trying
to clear my lungs, coughing up that disgusting brown gunk.

The reason why I am no longer surprised? Smile. Because it's a way of life
for me now. I expect this old grandma's body to breathe and enjoy all
aspects of life that I choose to enjoy. I got my life back and am in
charge. I get to do as I please without some drug dictating to me my
schedule. Smoke freedom is that and so much more.

I encourage you to take a deep breath, revel in that ability, and realize,
that if you continue on in your journey to get free, being able to breathe
deeply becomes a way of life. As does all the other aspects your freedom
will afford you.

I'm grateful I can come back and talk to you every now and then. Without
this newsgroup, I would not be celebrating 9 years. It's as simple as that.
Hello to all my old friends. ddsteve and ddJacque!!! Paul Henry!!! Hey,
darlins'... 9 yrs! Who'd have thunk it. To all of the folks along the way
that added so richly to my experience here, thank you. Said very sincerely.

Now, it's off to go hunt down the camping gear. The sweat lodge is calling
me and I'm ready to go be a part of this ceremony.

Your way of life, the quality and the quantity is all up to you. Find a way
to get smokefree and join me at 9 years quit. Life doesn't get much sweeter
than this.

Yukpa hashi/PatB
9yrs. quit
I can't find my meter anymore but the numbers must be quite large by now.
HUGE smile.www.talkingstick.net

Hi
Thanks for dropping in Yukpa. Great achievement 9 years.
Regards Chris
