Welcome, and good luck with the tooth extraction. I can confirm that a dry
socket is extremely painful (hmmm, I was a smoker when I had my wisdom teeth
taken out...). You've got a good plan in place, now run with it. If you
don't have internet access at home, can you print out a bunch of stuff to
read from the various stop-smoking websites for while you're incapacitated?

Hi everyone,
I've posted a few messages here over the past few weeks. Basically, I
have decided to quit, but had to wait until my final exams in law
school are over. Just now, I have basically found the perfect moment
to quit:
I am having a wisdom tooth pulled in two days' time. You obviously
can't smoke for several days afterwards (it might give you something
called a "dry socket" - apparently an amazingly painful condition).
They also give you painkillers, which are meant to make you woozy and
sleep a lot. So it's really the perfect opportunity to stop.
There we are then: my quit date is Wednesday July 12. Wish me luck -
I'll be posting here as soon as my tooth allows me to leave my home (I
have to go to an internet café at the moment). Thanks for the kind
messages so far, and best of luck to everyone!
